During the Sony press conference at Gamescom, a playable teaser for a game was announced and released on the PSN store for PlayStation 4, titled P.T. The exact way to trigger the reveal isn't exactly know yet, but the concluding result is a video which shows that a new Silent Hill title is coming down the line for gamers.

Currently titled Silent Hills, the new game will feature Norman Reedus exploring the haunting town, or could it be towns?

Hideo Kojima, who is fairly busy these days showing off Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, will be joining forces with Guillermo del Toro of Hellboy, and most recently, Pacific Rim fame to develop the title.

New entry coming from one of my favorite gaming series? Check. Developed by the legendary Kojima? Check. Getting to play as Daryl? Awesome!

Quick Extraction

Ground Zeroes gives Metal Gear fans a sampling of what's to come in Metal Gear Solid 5, and has been heavily criticized for it's much public completion time of two hours. Selling for $20 as a digital download on 360 and PS3, and as a retail product for current and next-gen consoles at $30, Ground Zeroes is fairly pricey for the gameplay it does contain, but if you're looking for anything to play between the wait for MGS5, Ground Zeroes is worth checking out if you can rent it or find it on sale.

With Keifer Sutherland now at the helm as the voice of Snake, Ground Zeroes shows the power of the FOX engine with a few missions that revolve around a military base called Camp Omega, and is quite fun despite the short run-time of the main gameplay component Ground Zeroes provides.

The main mission of the game has players controlling Snake as he arrives at Omega with the goal of extracting two captured child soldiers from his side. You can either go in guns-blazing, sounding the alarms across the base as you fight your way to the soldiers, or attempt to be stealthy and get them both out without being seen or heard – or a nice mixture of both ways.

Detection in past Metal Gear games usually meant certain failure, but Ground Zeroes is built as an action game with responsive third-person controls which makes it possible to fight your way out of traditionally dangerous situations for MGS titles.

My first initial play-through of the main mission took about an hour and twenty minutes, with subsequent runs taking less time. My fastest completion currently is about twenty minutes. This run-time would normally be a bummer, but with Ground Zeroes it's fine since Konami built the game as small experience, although it does pack in some great re-playability if you factor in the side ops and console exclusive content.

All of the missions in Ground Zeroes take place at Omega and contain various objectives and brief cut-scenes to introduce each one. Some are stealth based and have you collecting tapes or rescuing additional allies, and others are more action oriented with Snake beginning in a helicopter armed with unlimited ammo to take out soldiers as you attempt to rescue specific soldiers.

In total, there's about five sub missions to compliment the main Ground Zeroes mission, so you're looking at about 5+ hours of content, although the $30 price of the retail version is still a bit high in my opinion.

Visually speaking, Ground Zeroes looks great on current consoles, but from the videos of the next-gen consoles I've seen, was built for the latest systems from Microsoft and Sony. I played the game on Xbox 360, and was impressed by what Konami was able to do with the FOX engine on the nine year console. The character models look great and are accompanied by some great weather and lighting effects.

If you can get it on PS4 or Xbox One, you'll really be able to see what those consoles can do when you try out Ground Zeroes.

After playing the main mission about five times and checking out the sub missions available, I was able to get a nice feel for Ground Zeroes

I don't think it will be a game I'll go back to until MGS5 comes out as a refresher and to re-familiarize myself with the new controls for MGS, but it's certainly worth looking for a few hours, something that it was basically designed for.

+ Amazing visuals and fun action/stealth gameplay
+ Extra missions, weapons, and collectibles to unlock
+ Re-playability factor of the available missions
- Fairly short experience for the asking price of $20-30 for each platform

Konami has announced the launch window for MGSV: Ground Zeroes, the official prologue game to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Set to arrive in Spring of next year, the game will be available as both a digital download and retail disc, as well as being available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Retail discs for the 360/PS3 version will be $29.99, with a $19.99 price for the downloadable version, while XB1/PS4 versions will cost $29.99 as a digital download.

Ground Zeroes was first introduced in an impressive video that detailed the benefits of the new Fox Engine created by Hideo Kojima and his team, which features are said to both push the limits of current-gen and serve as a stable base for Next-gen development.

All of this is pretty exciting, and I can't wait until next year to check it out!

Snake's voice is changing.

Since Metal Gear Solid debuted on the PS1, the iconic character was voiced by David Hayter, who has now been replaced by Kiefer Sutherland, Konami has confirmed.

Most known for his role on 24, Sutherland has some experience voicing games, as he played Roebuck in Call of Duty: World At War, but now will have to step into the role of Snake in the upcoming new game, which will be released for 360 and PS3.

With E3 just a few days away, let's hope that Konami will show off some of Sutherland's performance to the many Hayter fans out there who believe that he should reprise his role.

Below you'll find the awesome new introduction video to the next installment in the Metal Gear franchise. Hideo Kojima and his team have been working on a game engine that will allow for a great blend of cinematography and gameplay, and they seem to have done a sweet job so far.

Check out the video and see for yourself!

Konami recently finished fixing several issues on the PS3 version of Silent Hill HD via a patch, but the 360 will not be getting a patch due to "technical issues and resources.", according to Konami.

The patch for PS3 version of Silent Hill HD Collection fixes issues with the frame rate and audio synchronization issues, just a few of the issues fans encountered with the game. For the 360 version, I have personally encountered slow down and achievement issues, as well as some sound bugs.

It's great that they addressed the issues, but they should have done so for both consoles. The Jackie Chan picture above is how I feel about the decisions and I'm sure others who purchased the title on 360 can relate.

Return to Silent Hill in 2011

You ready to return?

Konami is currently developing the next number sequel to bear the Silent Hill name. Silent Hill 8 will feature new protagonist Murphy Pendleton, a prison inmate left stranded in Silent Hil. The last Console Silent Hill game Shattered Memories was a re-imagining of Silent Hill 1, but SH8 will be a brand new story to take part in.

Look to return to the foggy town in 2011!
