Gears of War 2 XP Event is a Go!

25 Times the XP. Golden Weapons for Everyone. Torque Bow wielding enemies. Yep, this is how I will spend Labor Day weekend.

While PAX-goers enjoy getting a sneak peek at Gears of War 3, Epic hasn't forgotten about those Gears fans at home and nowhere near Seattle and has flipped the switch once again for some Gears 2 XP action. Players will have another shot to get their wings, while those that never got to wield a Golden Lancer and Hammerburst will have a chance from Friday until Tuesday morning.

If you're playing some Horde with friends, just be careful peeking out of cover for explosive arrows wielded now by Drones, and Grenadiers.

Once again you enjoy all this great 25x XP action until Tuesday morning.

Get Ready to go Tick, Tick, Boom in Gears 2

Although the Gears of War 3 buzz is starting to build, Epic hasn' forgotten about supporting their middle Gears title as Gears of War recieves another title update that adds social matches and fixes some more exploits. Check out some highlights below:

Improvements

-Adds a new public multiplayer match option called Social Xbox LIVE (aka player matches), open to anyone who owns all downloadable maps

-You can join Social Matches in progress and can quit any time without penalty, although players who quit a match early don’t receive earned experience (XP) from that match.

-Social matchmaking lets your party join a match in progress. If a match is not found, your party hosts a new match, filling any empty player slots with bots.

-Social Matches automatically cycle to the next map without further matchmaking.
Teams are rebalanced between matches based on XP level without splitting parties.

-If you quit, your spot is taken by a bot until a new player joins the match. That new player can join while the match is in progress.

-If you join a match in progress, you are assigned a team based on XP level and party size.

-If you join a match in progress, you replace a bot at the earliest opportunity: at the first bot’s death for respawning game types (for example, Annex) and at round completion for Warzone, Execution, and Wingman.

-Before the match begins, teams are balanced based on XP without splitting parties.
Renames Private Matches to Custom Xbox LIVE Matches and makes these matches invite-only.

-Adds the ability to join Horde sessions that are in progress.

Exploit Fixes

-Title Update 6 fixes these other issues as well:
An issue that could cause your profile to be overwritten, erasing XP level, and achievement progress.

-An issue that could cause a campaign save slot to be overwritten if you previously chose to continue without saving and then signed in.

Four new winterized themed maps hit this week for Gears of War 2. there was a big title update that brought levels and experience to Gears about a week or so ago and also fixed some match making issues. Here's the details on the new maps:

"This winter-themed pack brings you four Gears of War 2 maps sure to heat up your multiplayer and Horde action. Hunt your enemies down in the snowy day-lit heights or the dark tunnels of Under Hill. The massive industrial complex of Grind Yard gives numerous bunkers for cover, but watch out for snipers high in the flanking buildings. Beware the falling monuments in Courtyard, where wide-open spaces give you plenty of opportunities to gun down your enemies—unless they strike first. And due to fan demand, the popular Gears 1 map Fuel Depot makes its return."

The Maps will cost 800 Points ($10.00) and will take up 83 MB of Space.

Gears of War 2 has been in the top 10 played games on Xbox Live since it's launch back in November, but the game has had many matchmaking issues that have turned away a few gamers.

Fear not gears players! Epic is releasing a new title update on March 24 that will fix matchmaking issues and also integrate an experience system into the game. Scoring points in public matches will give the player overall experience and increase their level.

Also Announced was a new map pack currently dated for a March 31st release3. It will include 3 new levels called Grindyard, Under Hill and, Courtyard, and will also include Fuel Depot from the original Gears of War. No price for the maps yet, but 800 points sound like a good bet to have ready.

Let's hope the problems with connecting to matches will be alleviate with the new Title update.
