The first of a few packs for Dead Rising 2 has been released on Xbox Live. Originally pre-order items from various retailers, these packs feature a new outfit with various skills. Once all become available, you can wear a piece from each one and improve the ability of Chuck. Check out the first one below:

"Wearing this special costume gives Chuck all the shockingly disturbing abilities of a deranged homicidal psychopath! Actually, that's quite handy if you're surrounded by a horde of zombies. Some of the special abilities Chuck's costume-enhanced psyche affords him include better resistance to damage due to his deranged state, stronger attacks with some classic killing implements such as the chef knife and chainsaw, as well as truly sick new attacks for weapons loved by murderous maniacs everywhere, including the machete, mining pick and meat cleaver!"

Review: Dead Rising 2

Welcome to Fortune City: Home of the Rich and Undead.

Surrounded by the undead Horde with three strangers depending on your help, you look down at your watch and discover that Katey will need Zombrex in 20 minutes. The only problem is that you don’t have any at the moment. What will you do?

After four years of waiting, Dead Rising 2 is finally here. Our small taste of the action in Case Zero was great, but now it’s time for the main course.

Since the main portion of the story takes 72 hours (about 6 hours real-time), you’ll still have to pick and choose which optional missions to go after, but this method like with the original is great since it adds replayability, prolonged even more than the first game with the addition of online co-op and Terror is Reality multiplayer.

Campaign

The overview of the story has been out there since the announcement of Dead Rising 2, so I can talk a bit about that without giving any main details away. Katey still needs Zombrex, but since Case Zero the medicine has advanced to cover 24 hours a day, instead of 12. This gives Chuck more time to find the medicine, and to cover the costs he partakes in Terror is Reality, a game show involving killing zombies in many humorous ways which is highly disapproved of by CURE, the PETA for Zombies basically. Things happen later on that causes an outbreak in Fortune City, and our hero Mr. Greene is blamed. Rescue will arrive in 72 hours, so Chuck spends his time scrambling to prove it wasn’t him.

It’s actually a pretty engaging story with great cut scenes, but not the main draw of the game. It’s still all about Zombies, and the many ways to kill them, made even better with the combo system for items.

Combo Cards and Leveling Up

I think were about 6 or so cards to use in Case Zero, but Dead Rising 2 has about 50. Each offer extra PP for kills and all are great to use. A paddle saw is cool, but combing gems and a flashlight to create a laser sword is just plain awesome. It doesn’t stop there either with secret cards available that open up even more ways to dispose of the Undead.

Even without these cards and items, Chuck can still hold his own against the Zombies and Psychos, just as long you level up him up. It’s not too hard to do either, as my first playthrough got me to level 33 of 50 and that was spent goofing around and tackling the main cases first. There are cool skills that will eventually unlock for Chuck, but I do miss a few that Mr. West could perform.

Terror is Reality and Co-op

The fictional game show in Dead Rising 2 can be played with up to four players online. No matter your place in the events comprised of about nine mini-games, each player will rack up points and even earn money to carry over to your single-player game. The mini-games are pretty fun and are not too difficult to accomplish, so each player has a good chance to reach 1st place in the events.

My only problem with this mode is that I was having trouble finding a match, which might have been a connection problem on my side or something else. What I hope to do though is get the three Terror is Reality achievements early so I can work on the harder achievements which dole out 20G for each one just like the original. Thankfully though, I won’t have to keep my 360 on for 14 hours again!

Co-op is a great reason to play this game, and is a lot fun. At any moment you can invite a friend to drop in your game and help you out, with them still able to receive PP and money, but none of the story progression from that you both may make in your story. It seems to be fixed now, but the first few days that the game was out, anytime the host of a co-op game would save automatically booted the other player out. When someone joins your game, they will also be Chuck, so using the game’s stores to dress him up will also ensure that you have a unique Chuck, which is pretty cool.

Survivors and Saving

The survivors this time around are much, much easier to escort. They actually follow your waypoints properly and can hold their own with the many weapons in the game. The Saving system has been improved as well, with three slots available instead of only one from the original.

Conclusion

Dead Rising 2 makes small improvements from the original game, while still keeping the elements that the original contained that can be seen as both good and bad. If you loved Dead Rising like myself, you’ll love the sequel; if you didn’t, you’ll still have a great time with friends to back you up since playing alone can be pretty challenging at times, but may just want to give it a rent.

1st Impressions (Dead Rising 2)

Zombies FTW.

I've played a few hours of Dead Rising 2 so far, and I'm really impressed with all the tweaks they made to the original formula. The combo items are all varied and fun to use, and the sheer number of zombies roaming around makes things hectic while still being fun. Most of time with the game has been in Co-op mode too. Online play was surprisingly smooth, although for a while when my co-op partner would save, I would get removed from the session. It seemed to improve after an hour so, and since then I haven't been kicked out.

I also played a few matches in Terror is Reality, the game's competieve mode. In TIR your goal is too complete a task of minigames and rack up a nice score against three other players. There are 9 events, and usually one match will consist of 4 or 5 to compete in.

Campaign wise, I've haven't gotten too much into that since I want to level up some more, but once I get more speed to trek across Fortune City faster, I'll start the hectic case by case schedule the game demands.

So far Dead Rising 2 is great, and I can't wait to play more. Look out for a review in the near future!

Best Arcade game ever?

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero was great and offered hours of gameplay for only $5, and Dead Rising 2 is only a few days away. Downloads for the prequel impressed Capcom and they have recently announced Dead Rising 2: Case West. Case West takes place after the story of Dead Rising 2, and will feature co-op with players controlling Chuck Greene and Dead Rising alumni Frank West. Awesome! Let's hope the price will remain the same, since the low entry price really helped Case Zero get out to a wider audience.

As for Dead Rising 2, I am super excited. I still have my original copy of Dead Rising from 2007 when I got my first Xbox 360. It's been about a month too since I unlocked all the achievements, and I'm ready for more zombie action. Monday after class I plan on playing through Dead Rising and Case Zero one more time, just to be a bit more prepared.

Reach just came out, and Dead Rising 2 will be here soon. Man this has a been a great month for gaming!

More Case Zero Details

More details have come in about Case Zero, although no date has been officially given. Set to arrive a few weeks to a month before the full release of Dead Rising 2 in September, Case Zero will serve as both a demo, and a chnace to boost up Chuck Green in the Dead Rising 2.

When interviewed at an Zombie event for the game and movie, Kenji Inafune stated that Case Zero would serves as DR2's demo. You'll be able to play through part of it for free, but if you want to see how things end, you'll need to pay in a fashion like the Fable II episodes. Inafune said to expect a price of around ¥500, which would be about 600 MSP or more for us in the U.S.

Inafune also stated the length of Case Zero depends on the player skill, with an average time between 3-5 hours, and more for exploration and achievemenets.

Once again I can't wait for Case Zero, but it would be nice to know how much MSP I need to have for it, and a date to wait for.

Dead Rising 2 releases September 28th for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Dead Rising 2 gets a 1 month Delay

So I wake up today to hear that my most anticipated game for 2010 is delayed. Not happy, but it's only for a month which alright. More time to polish it for us I hope.

Capcom gave no reason for the delay, and no more information on whether this will affect Case Zero, which is still slated to come out before DR2. The Official date for Dead Rising 2 in America is now September 28th, 2010.

Kotaku's own Brian Crecente had a chance to check out Dead Rising 2 and Case Zero, which is a prequel that promises about 3 hours of gameplay and a tool to bridge the story between Dead Rising and the Sequel coming out this August. Rather than release a short demo, Keiji Inafune and his team have made something that gives players a nice taste of the features for the full game. No price was mentioned, but I would say save 400-1200 MSP just in case. You can check out Crecente's preview here, and a new trailer for the game below:

Check it Out! Dead Rising was a fun game with a few problems, notably the saving structure and Achievements requiring you to play for about 10+ hours straight, so I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

The Main protagonist for Dead Rising 2 now has a name: Mr. Chuck Greene. More details for Dead Rising 2 were revealed for a Japanese gaming magazine which included details on our new hero.

His Occupation will reveal more about him in the game and the squeal will also revolve around having 72 hours to find out what's going on.
Here is the video that teased a possible sequel that we now know is Dead Rising 2. I hope the next video will be an official full size HD trailer to show off some zombie action.

P.S To Capcom- Add some sort of Multiplayer to the game!

Capcom has officialy unveiled Dead Rising 2. The game will take place a few years after the first game and screen shots so far show a new main character. The will take place in Fortune City, a place that could be inspired by Las Vegas.

The Game was confirmed to be coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
